A SENATE RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC DECATHLON TEAM AND COACHES LYNN MCALPIN AND BONNIE WEBB FOR WINNING THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE 13TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Academic Decathlon Team has achieved the outstanding accomplishment of winning the statewide championship for an unprecedented 13th consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School team is the only state champion in the history of the academic decathlon competition; and

WHEREAS, Lynn McAlpin and Bonnie Webb are the co-coaches of this award-winning team; Lynn is a veteran math teacher with 27 years of teaching experience, having taught in the Pearl, Calhoun City and Tupelo public schools; and Bonnie is a veteran English teacher with 30 years of teaching experience in the Tupelo public schools; and

WHEREAS, Lynn McAlpin was named a STAR teacher in 1983, 1993 and 1998; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of students, who represent the very best of excellence in public education in Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School Academic Decathlon Team and its Coaches Lynn McAlpin and Bonnie Webb for winning the state championship for an unprecedented 13th consecutive year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Tupelo High School Academic Team and its Coaches, be forwarded to the Principal and Superintendent of the Tupelo School District and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
